The scope of this policy is limited to the Archive ’s data collections. It deals with all aspects of preservation and applies to all materials held for long-term digital preservation by the Archive on behalf of the University of Essex and others. The policy only covers the preservation of data collections for which the Archive is the primary custodian. It does not consider preservation of other materials such as the Archive’s web content, internal administrative documents and correspondence. Some of these materials, including third-party standards, legislation, policies and procedures, have a direct impact on the preservation process, but are governed by the Archive’s Records Management Policy. The Archive’s preservation strategy is not formulated in a single document but rather is embedded across a range of business information related to data curation and preservation.
