The CESSDA Metadata Validator (CMV) validates DDI metadata records used by CESSDA’s tools and services, against a given DDI Profile. These DDI Profiles are developed and maintained by the Metadata Office. They contain the rules and constraints that metadata records need to follow to be compatible with the CESSDA Data Catalogue and the European Question Bank.
The CMV checks if the metadata record is valid according to the rules defined in the selected profile. If there are violations, you will get a list of validation errors specifying which rules have been broken.
The CMV currently features profiles used within CESSDA, but the tool is designed to validate DDI metadata records against any DDI Profile. It can therefore be widely adopted for many other applications.
