Summary report and recommendations from a conference which was the highlight of the Slovenian Presidency of the Council of the EU in the field of research and innovation. It focused on re-designing the European research area (ERA) policy framework, informing future European Commission policy initiatives, as well as feeding into the policymaking work of the Council of the EU, the Member States and countries associated with Horizon Europe. One of the main policy objectives pursued through the conference format is the ‘community building’ of ERA stakeholders. The aim is to achieve this through facilitating stakeholder ownership and buy-in of common objectives by formulating recommendations for implementation of ERA actions. The event gathered regional, national, European stakeholders, and policy- and decision-makers involved in all phases of the research and innovation policy cycle.
