The Swedish National Data Service

The Swedish National Data Service is a research data infrastructure that supports accessibility, preservation, and reuse of research data. Together with an extensive network of 40 universities and public research institutes, it aims at making access to research data as “open as possible, as closed as necessary”.

With headquarters in Gothenburg, it is primarily funded by the Swedish Research Council and the consortium universities, which contribute with their expertise in different research fields and research data management. By encouraging and facilitating open science, SND leads to more accessible, useful, and transparent research.

“SND, the Swedish National Data Services, is more than 40 years old. Of course, SND has matured with CESSDA over the years and it has been really important to develop and become a well known archive in Sweden. A lot of archives are now changing to a different way of working – working much more broadly – not just social science, but also other areas of science.

It is still really crucial for SND to be active in its European collaborations and to still be working with the other service providers to develop different standards, materials and reports. CESSDA is crucial for all of the service providers in a European context.” Max Petzold, Director of SND.
