Data Archiving and Networked Services - DANS
DANS is an institute of the Dutch Academy KNAW (its legal entity) and funding organisation NWO, and as such, CESSDA Service Provider in The Netherlands.
DANS is the Dutch national centre of expertise and repository for research data. DANS encourages researchers to make their digital research data and related outputs Findable, Accessible, Interoperable and Reusable. With more than 200,000 datasets and a staff of 60, DANS is one of the leading repositories in Europe.
DANS provides data archiving services for the scientific community. Researchers can deposit their data in one of our domain-specific certified Data Stations. For institutes we offer DataverseNL which allows institutes to create their own repository for storing, registering and sharing research data online, both during the research and after it is completed. All data is stored for the long term in our Vault.
By participating in (inter)national projects, networks and research, DANS contributes to continued innovation of the global scientific data infrastructure. Open if possible, protected if needed.
Training
DANS supports researchers (indirectly) e.g. in organising training sessions together with RDNL Essentials 4 Data Support and CESSDA Data Management Expert Guide. DANS participates in many European projects and often plays a role in the training and trainer community activities. As a result DANS is involved in organising workshops and providing webinars mainly around Research Data Management, FAIR data, Open Science, and certification.
